Tummy Tuck
Tummy Tuck, also called abdominoplasty, is typically performed to achieve a flatter, trimmer abdomen by removing excess abdominal skin and fat and tightening underlying musculature. Whether due to pregnancy, weight loss or aging, stretched skin and muscles may be present which can benefit from a tummy tuck. By achieving a tighter waistline, a tummy tuck can improve your appearance and increase your self-confidence.
Is a Tummy Tuck Right for You?
Men and women of all ages may benefit from a tummy tuck. Good candidates have the following characteristics:
- Normal weight
- Excess skin
- Stretched stomach muscles
- Healthy diet and exercise
If your stretched skin and fat deposits are limited to the area below the naval, a Mini Tummy Tuck may be appropriate.
If you are considerably overweight, you are not the best candidate for this procedure. Your doctor may recommend that you lose some of your excess weight before considering this procedure.
Your FACESplusTM plastic surgeon is familiar with all the techniques of abdominoplasty. Through a transverse incision across the lower abdomen skin is separated from the abdominal muscles. Muscles are tightened and excess skin is excised. Liposuction of the abdomen and flanks may be combined with the tummy tuck when indicated.
What to Expect
The tummy tuck operation is performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient surgical facility. Your surgeon will prescribe medications to make your recovery more comfortable. You should avoid strenuous activity for three to four weeks following the procedure.
Dr. Steven Cohen will also have you wear an abdominal support for several weeks to help reduce swelling and fluid retention. Soon after surgery, you will have a tighter flatter stomach.
