Cheek and Chin Augmentation
Cheek and Chin Augmentations are used to enhance facial contours and provide harmonious balance to your face. For example, a person's nose may appear larger than it actually is, due to the chin being too small for the proportions of the face.
Chin Augmentation is an outpatient procedure in which the surgeon makes an incision either under the chin or inside the mouth. A sterile implant is then secured in front of the bone to increase the projection of the chin. The chin bone itself can be cut and moved forward to increase projection. Either metal or bioresorbable plates and screws can be used to stabilize the bone.
Cheek Augmentation, also an outpatient procedure, is performed to create more pronounced cheekbones or to correct a flat midface. By enhancing the midface, this procedure provides your soft tissues with an enhanced structural foundation. A small incision is made inside the upper lip or lower eyelid. Then a sterile implant is secured over the cheekbone to increase projection. Cheek augmentation can also be performed to complement a chin augmentation, a face lift or nasal refinement.
What to Expect Following Chin or Cheek Augmentation
You will experience some bruising and swelling that recedes within two weeks. Your surgeon will prescribe medication for any discomfort that may arise after the surgery. After the swelling has diminished, your skin will drape smoothly over your new enhanced chin or cheeks.
