Rhinoplasty (Nasal Refinements)
Nasal Refinement, also called rhinoplasty, is typically performed to reduce the overall size of the nose, reshape a tip, remove a nasal hump or improve a poor angle between the nose and the upper lip. In some patients it is necessary to add tissue in order to improve contour. Newer open techniques of nasal sculpturing permit better visualization and correction of nasal deformities.
Dr. Steven Cohen will evaluate the overall appearance of your nose, its symmetry and how it fits in with the rest of your facial features. Many times the doctor will find that only a minor adjustment is required since other areas, such as the chin or cheeks, reflect the perception of nasal proportion. The plastic surgeons at FACESplusTM have years of clinical experience in producing changes ranging from the subtle to the dramatic.
Good candidates for a nasal refinement include those with the following conditions:
- Nose appears too large for face
- A bump or depression on the nasal bridge
- Nose appears too wide
- Nose tip either droops or plunges
- The tip is thickened or enlarged
- Excessively flared nostrils
- Nose is off centered or crooked
- An asymmetrical nose due to previous injury
- An airway obstruction that impairs breathing
In patients with a weak chin, nasal sculpturing can be combined with a chin augmentation procedure. Nasal refinement can also be combined with procedures to improve nasal breathing when indicated.
Men and women of all ages, beginning with the teenage years, may benefit from nasal refinement. By achieving a better balance between nasal contour and the face, nasal refinement can improve your appearance and increase your self-confidence.
