Chin Augmentation
Genioplasty or Chin Augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that strengthens the chin and defines the lower third of the face. Chin augmentation may be among the most exciting and beneficial cosmetic procedures that are done. The increased confidence that comes with a well defined chin in proportion with the rest of the face is well documented in both the medical and lay literature. Chin augmentation can be performed either by using an implant made of silicone or plastic to stack on the chin or by cutting the chin bone and advancing it, a procedure called Osseous Genioplasty. Some patients with recessed chins also have recessed lower jaws which can be diagnosed and treated by surgery and orthodontics. Some patients also have associated problems with snoring or apnea and will benefit by having the chin moved forward by Osseous Genioplasty. The procedure takes about an hour and recovery is fairly quick.
