Lip Augmentation
Lip Augmenation or enhancement is a procedure to increase the fullness of the lips. After the eyes, the lips are the next most engaging area of the face. During a conversation, the eyes of an observer swings always from the eyes to the lips and back. The volume of the lips can be thick and prominent, or thin and retracted. Fuller lips are generally more attractive and desirable.
At FACESplusTM Dr. Steven Cohen will evaluate your lips and how they balance with the rest of your facial features. When indicated, lip enhancement may be achieved by the injection of a filler material behind the lip as well as in the space between the skin and mucosa of the lip.
Current filler materials, such as Juvaderm and Restylane, are temporary and usually last about 6 months. FACESplusTM was one of eight centers for a pre-FDA-approval study of a permanent filler known as ArteFill. The FACESplusTM plastic surgeons are therefore already very experienced in this, as well as other materials for lip enhancement.
Permanent soft silicone implants may also be placed in the lips for augmentation. The surgery is done under a local anesthesia in the office and the results are impressive.
