New Techniques in Enriched Fat Injections
The use of adipose tissue, which is rich in stem and regenerative cells has undergone a renaissance in the reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Enriched fat injections is a procedure whereby a patient’s fat tissue is enriched with his or her own regenerative cells to create a natural filler. The applications are widespread with potential benefits in breast augmentation, facial cosmetics, breast reconstruction and contour deformities from a variety of acquired and congenital disorders.
Studies have began in Europe in 2008 for Cell-Enhanced Reconstruction following partial mastectomy for breast cancer and studies are underway in Japan for breast augmentation as well as breast reconstruction.
In the summer of 2008, Dr. Cohen visited Cytori in Japan and spent time with Dr. Kamakura, learning the fundamentals of adipose-derived stem and regenerative cells for use in breast augmentation. In February 2009, Dr. Kamakura and a team of physicians and nurses visited with Dr. Cohen at FACESplus to further establish a working relationship.
