Autogenous Fat Injections
Fat taken during liposuction under local anesthesia can be purified and re-injected using the Coleman technique into a variety of areas. Lips can be nicely augmented, nasolabial folds can be filled and the glabellar frown lines can be treated.
In selected cases, restoration of soft tissue volume of the face can be performed using the body's own fat. The only problem with fat is the variable nature of "take". Since fat is a graft, it must receive a new blood supply to survive. Generally, only about 20-30% of fat survives.
Stem Cells Derived From Fat
New research into stem cells derived from fat may ultimately lead to permanent results when fat is injected. Through their involvement with StemSource, a company owned by Macropore Biosurgery, a company that Drs. Cohen and Holmes helped launch, the Plastic surgeons at FACESplusTM are intimately involved in new research using Stem Cells derived from fat. One day it may even be possible to perform breast augmentation using the body's own fat combined with stem cells.
