Wrinkle Injection

Many wrinkle fillers are on the market today and more are being introduced at a very rapid rate. It is getting difficult to tell one filler from another. Often, it is like the "flavor of the week" from a patient's perspective. Basically, there are 3 types of fillers available today. There are temporary, longer-lasting, and permanent fillers that are made from a wide range of substances. The temporary filler of choice right now is Restylane, which will soon have an even broader product line with fillers with large molecular weights and fillers with smaller weights designed for specific target areas, such as the lips or nasolabial folds versus the fine lines around the lips and eyes. Hyalform is of similar composition to Restylane, but of shorter duration.
Radience (or Radiesse) and Sculptra are longer-lasting in many cases, but not permanent. They tend to last from 6-9 months up to 2 years.
ArteFill® is a permanent filler that was recently approved by the FDA. Many patients get tired of frequent return visits for re-injection and will be thrilled to have a permanent solution. However, because of ArteFill's permanence, greater skill and training are required for its injection.
Other fillers that use the body's own tissue include autogenous (your tissues) and cadaver-derived.
