non-surgical rhinoplasty

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as non-surgical nose job or liquid nose job, achieves the results of traditional rhinoplasty only using injectable dermal fillers. Whether you want to test out what you would look like with a nose job or simply do not wish to undergo a surgical procedure, non-surgical rhinoplasty is an excellent choice for improving nose shape and contour. There is a reason why over 350,000 women and men received rhinoplasties in 2020. [2] The nose is one of, if not the first features others notice when they first look at you. If you are not happy with the shape of your nose or how your side profile looks, contact Faces+ today. Dr. Cohen performing non-surgical nose jobs in San Diego knows how to achieve the perfect contour to compliment your face.

About

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is performed by injecting a dermal filler to disguise minor bumps or asymmetry. The internal structure of the nose remains unchanged since the filler is injected into the fatty layer; there is no manipulation of the bone or underlying structure. [1] This minimally-invasive procedure will not physically make your nose smaller, but by correcting a bridge bump or drooping tip, the illusion of a smaller nose is achieved.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty versus Traditional Rhinoplasty

As the name implies, non-surgical rhinoplasty is an option to change the appearance of the nose without surgery or general anesthesia. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is best undergone for smaller issues you would like addressed such as a small bump on the bridge. Surgical rhinoplasty is the better option if you would like to change the shape of the tip of your nose, you want a more curved bridge, or you want an overall smaller nose. Dr. Cohen is the one who does the injection for non-surgical rhinoplasty as it requires a comprehensive knowledge of facial anatomy and specific injection technique that allows this procedure to be done safely and with optimal results.

Traditional rhinoplasty is performed as an open or closed procedure, the difference being an open procedure requires an incision in between the nostrils, and a closed procedure’s incisions are concealed within the nose. Scarring is hardly noticeable, if at all, in an open procedure since the placement is so discreet, and no scarring is visible in a closed procedure. Depending on the desired outcome, the nasal bone will be shaved down or reset, cartilage will be removed, and/or the septum will be straightened for easier breathing.

Before and After Photos

Benefits

A huge benefit of non-surgical rhinoplasty is the fact that it can achieve similar results to traditional rhinoplasty in about 10 minutes and is a more cost-effective option. This procedure also doesn’t involve scalpels, general anesthesia, or downtime. And best of all, nobody will be able to tell you underwent a cosmetic procedure; they’ll simply appreciate your beautiful profile and stunning appearance.

Candidates

Ideal candidates for non-surgical nose job experience one or more of the following:

  • Minor nasal cosmetic concerns
    • Slight asymmetry
    • Dorsal hump
    • Concaved dorsal
    • Crooked nose
    • Less tip projection or refinement [3]
  • Do not want to undergo a surgical procedure
  • Want to test-run your new look
  • Had a rhinoplasty and would like to make small changes

Realistic expectations are very important with this procedure. Non-surgical rhinoplasty may not be the right procedure for someone who wants dramatic reshaping or a much smaller nose. It also will not address breathing issues. It is a temporary cosmetic fix.

Personal Consultation

Candidacy for non-surgical rhinoplasty is determined during a personal consultation at San Diego’s Faces+ office. First, a discussion will take place about your nasal cosmetic concerns and your desired outcome. Feel free to bring in photos for cosmetic goal reference. Next, be ready to talk about your medical history; this is to make sure that non-surgical rhinoplasty is appropriate for you. Finally, an examination of your nose will take place. If it is ultimately determined that this procedure is the right course of action for your cosmetic goals and expectations, a personalized treatment plan will be drawn up just for you. This will include the type of dermal filler and injection location.

Preparation

There is minimal preparation before your procedure. Anti-inflammatory medications should be avoided two weeks before your appointment to help lessen potential side effects like bruising. On the day of treatment, make sure to not wear any makeup or skin products. Also, be sure to wear a shirt that buttons or has a very wide neck opening so you avoid placing any potential pressure on your nose when removing your clothing.

Procedure

The two types of injectables most often used for a non-surgical nose job are calcium hydroxyapatite and hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. [3] To begin, your nose will be cleaned and numbed if desired. The predetermined dermal filler will then be injected in small increments either using a needle or cannula in the desired locations to make sure not to overfill. Our skilled injectors are unmatched at making sure the appropriate amount of filler is injected in the exact locations necessary to achieve your desired result.

Recovery

As with any dermal filler treatment, no downtime is necessary. It is okay to return to normal activity after your procedure. Some bruising and swelling are possible but these effects are temporary and can be concealed with makeup. Your skincare routine can be continued as normal. To ensure the best results possible, please refrain from drinking alcohol and taking aspirin for 24 hours after treatment. It is also best to avoid wearing glasses for the following week to make sure the filler does not shift in shape. If you experience any discomfort, an ice pack can be applied to the treatment area so long as you avoid putting heavy pressure.

Results

The results of non-surgical rhinoplasty are instant. You will leave the office with your improved appearance and be able to enjoy the results for as long as the dermal filler lasts. This length of time is dependent on the brand of filler; some fillers last six months while others last a couple of years. These timelines will be discussed at your consultation.

Please remember that a non-surgical nose job is a temporary procedure and will require touch-up treatments to maintain results.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Why stop at the nose? Dermal fillers are popularly used to enhance the cheeks, plump the lips, sculpt the jawline, and fill the under-eyes. Faces+ offers different dermal filler brands to address different cosmetic desires. Each injectable filler has its best use; Bellafill and Sculptra are often used to smooth nasolabial folds, Juvéderm is popular for lip injections, and Restylane is great at tackling frown lines. These are just a few of the brands we offer, and each filler addresses multiple cosmetic concerns. During your consultation, a knowledgeable member of our team will discuss the benefits of each of these injectable fillers and which will help you attain a youthful and rejuvenated look

Botox is another popular injectable treatment that achieves a youthful appearance by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. A diluted version of botulinum toxin type A is injected into muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles like frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases. The injection temporarily paralyzes the muscles that are targeted which does not allow them to contract; in turn, allowing the skin above to smooth. If the creases are too deep though, dermal fillers may be a better solution.

FAQ

How long do the results of non-surgical rhinoplasty last?

The length of non-surgical rhinoplasty results varies based on the brand of dermal filler that is used. Typically, results can be enjoyed anywhere between six months and a couple of years.

Can my non-surgical nose job be reversed?

Yes; this is the great thing about this procedure. If you received a non-surgical nose job to test a new look and it turns out you like your appearance as is, it is possible to reverse your treatment by dissolving the filler.

Is non-surgical rhinoplasty better than traditional rhinoplasty?

One procedure is not better than the other. Each corrects nasal concerns but they address different severities. Non-surgical rhinoplasty can correct minor nasal deformities while traditional rhinoplasty is better utilized for more substantial nasal deformities or deviated septums.

Does a non-surgical nose job require downtime?

No! There is no downtime necessary after your procedure. Patients are free to return to their daily routine right after their appointment. There may be slight bruising or redness at the injection sites but makeup can cover these easily.
